Tablet coating in all its facets

On 18 and 19 October 2023, experts from all over Germany met on the topic of tablet coating at the Lödige Coating Seminar

Technical innovations from the industry, practical trials and personal dialogue with colleagues on the topic of tablet coating: with this tried-and-tested mix, the Lödige Coating Seminar has established itself as a fixture in the pharmaceutical industry. On 18 and 19 October 2023, experts from all over Germany met again for the latest edition of the format at Lödige’s headquarters in Paderborn.

The two-day conference programme once again focused on the latest technologies and trends in the areas of coating processes, coatings and nozzle technology. This year’s programme also focused on cleaning processes for coating systems. In addition to host Lödige, three technology and support partners were represented with specialised presentations: Colorcon, specialist for coating lacquers and functional additives; Düsen-Schlick, expert for spray technology production processes; and Ecolab, solution provider in the areas of water, hygiene and infection prevention.

The programme was rounded off by an extensive practical section with tests on Lödige laboratory and production coaters, including an LC130 Light Series. The series of events is to be continued in the coming years, not least due to the very positive feedback from participants. The next ”Lödige Coating Seminar” is planned for 2024.

Production of veterinary chewable tablets in the Ploughshare Mixer

Efficient process technology for dogs and cats The demand for veterinary products is increasing worldwide – and with it the need for particularly efficient, hygienic manufacturing processes. As the example of chewable tablets for dogs and cats shows, Ploughshare® Mixers can meet the specific requirements particularly well in several respects. From a technical process point of view, such chewable tablets mainly consist of dry raw materials: In the basic recipe, Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) or other additives, such as vitamins or flavours, are added to a basic product (e.g. corn starch or protein powder). The first intermediate product is thus a powdery dry mixture. After this premixing, liquid components, e.g. liquid polymer (PEG or macrogol) or oils (e.g. soya oil, fish oil) are added and incorporated in a second step. Maximilian Hoyer new managing director of Lödige

Change at the top of Gebrüder Lödige Maschinenbau GmbH: Maximilian Hoyer is the new managing director of the Paderborn-based process technology specialist since July 2023. Maximilian Hoyer has initially acted as commercial manager and authorized signatory at Lödige since August 2021. In his new position, he succeeds Dr. Frank Sandfort, who has managed the company on an interim basis for the past few months and is now chairing the advisory board of the family company again. Founded in 1938, Lödige revolutionized mixing and processing technology with the invention of the Ploughshare® mixer, patented in 1949. In the meantime, the company is a leading global full-service provider for process engineering applications in the areas of mixing, granulating, coating, drying, reacting and related processes. The fields of use for the machines and systems ranges from the food industry to pharma, cosmetics, chemical products, plastics and many more.
