Overview: Delegates will look at the setting up and commissioning of pneumatic conveying systems. This course is a ’Hands on’ fully practical session using the pneumatic conveying lines and rotary valves in the on-site laboratories in Chatham. Rotary valves are widely used to feed pneumatic conveying pipelines, and for feed metering, explosion isolation, atmospheric isolation etc. However there are a multitude of combinations of different feature options available covering choice of materials of construction, rotor type, drive type, venting arrangements, bearing pattern, seal choice, clearances, cleaning features etc. Faced with this bewildering choice, how does an engineer decide what to specify? New approaches to quantify powder’s bed surface qualities in additive manufacturing 30 June 2023 13;00 hrs UK time Presenter: Dr Hamid Salehi Latest Techniques in Spreadability Testing and Layer Quality Control. The powder bed surface qualities play an important role in the quality of the final parts fabricated using powder bed Additive Manufacturing processes. The development and application of a new techniques and prototype instrument which can be used to simulate the creation of a powder bed and reveal the surface properties of that bed will be introduced in this presentation. The new tester can be used to evaluate powder bed surface roughness, evaluate powder bed relative packing fraction, change in particle size and shape over the build plate and electrostatic charges over the powder bed. This webinar will provide a snapshot of the research conducted to date and it’s use in industry.

The pneumatic conveying of bulk solids is a complex process involving transporting solid particles in a high velocity gas stream through pipelines. In this process, the interaction between the gas and solid phases can lead to chaotic behaviour, which can affect the efficiency and reliability of the system. Learn about the causes of electrostatic charging and how they affect the handling of powders in the manufacturing process. An online course spread over 2 x 3 hour sessions, to discuss the issues surrounding the behaviour of powders suffering electrostatic charging during the manufacturing process. The hazards caused to product quality control and risk assessment will be identified and principal charge measurement techniques reviewed. Their use in the prediction and solution of problems will be discussed. Plant operators and designers, plant managers and maintenance personnel will all benefit enormously from attending this course, through improving their understanding of the behaviour of powders to learning techniques to overcome the problems encountered.
